P-Pain? He has to be here somewhere-- right? He's got to be. Where else would he-- maybe Hercules killed hi-- noooo no no no no. He didn't... he's here. And.. and nobody else is. Nobody else knows how to get down here without dying. Panic peaked around the dark stone walls inside Hades's lair, expecting to be empty (but that didn't make it any less scary). Every noise made him jump, his own blue tail scaring him as it curled up against his back. He didn't want to be there, but he couldn't go until he found Pain. Now with Hades gone, his only real purpose was to be with Pain and now he had no idea where the little red guy was. Pain? Master's gone... P-pleaaase come out... Pain? Pain... I'm leaving... He heard another noise, this time sounding close by. This made Panic too chicken to stay down there, so he turned around to run back out. Unfortunately for him, though, he didn't get very far. He wasn't down there alone. As he recognized the form blocking his exit, he cowered, throwing his sticklike arms over his head. But... but you... I didn't mean to...

"Cerberus, the heads of Roman emperors arenot food." The Lord of the Underworld shook his head. "Ah you know what, go for it.." He waved a hand. You want anything done right around here you hafta do it yourself. Ain't that right?" Oh, right, nobody was there. Weeeell- that was a downer. There were a lot of things Hades could get used to (hell, look where he lived) but silence was not on that list. With Meg gone off to live with god-boy and the whiny villians far less tolerable to work with than he'd anticipated, Hades was extremely conversation deprived. Like, he was actually starting to miss Pain and Panic. Useless, completely useless- but at least they were obedient.. I mean.. obedient as long as he kept threatening them. Who knew where they'd gone off to now? But he wasn't too worried about them- they weren't smart enough to get far. He was better off without them anyway, although he was hoping hunting them down and torturing them for a few hundred years might offer some entertainment. And what - do - you - know. "Speak of the devil and he shall appear. But hey, that guy's all just myth and fantasy. Didn't think you'd be showing your face around here. Me? Oh- you're wondering why I'm here, aren't you? Because you didn't do anything about it. What'd'ya think-- the river was just going to continue it's natural flow?" Nothing about nature was natural. Just ask his mom. He lifted Panic up by he ears.. horns.. ah he didn't really care what they were. He lifted him up so that they were eye level and smiled at him. He wan't mad.. fire wasn't going to explode into the ceiling.. bygones were bygones. Ha. Yeah right. Like that'd last. "You do not even have the brain power to comprehend the amount of trouble you are in."

That… that wasn’t supposed to happen. How did he… where did he… He’s in charge of the Underworld.. Panic should have seen this coming. Maybe he wasn’t mad. He didn’t seem mad… he was talking and he sounded perfectly fine. He had his same… twisted sense of humor. And then he started with the because you didn’t do anything about it. He just sort of assumed everything would go on naturally without Hades running the place… which was clearly a horrible misconception. Panic opened his mouth to attempt to defend himself but instinct had him running in the other direction. Before he could take two steps, though, he was lifted into the air, trembling with his hands covering his face—I mean, if he couldn’t see Hades, Hades couldn’t see him. It was worth a shot. You do not even have the brain power to comprehend the amount of trouble you are in. It was probably best for him to keep his mouth shut but.. N-no, Master, I was looking for… you see I have to f-find Pain. Do you know where he— and then he realized that talking wasn’t his best bet. In an attempt to free himself from Hades’s grasp, he shifted into a snake, though he really didn’t think that one out well because it did nothing about Hades’s hand. Don’t be mad… I can fix it.. I can.. Yea, he had nothing.

Honestly, Hades was well aware he was getting far too much enjoyment out of this. He had missed having the little guys around. He'd almost forgotten how much fun they could be to mess with. And the Underworld needed a bit of fun every once in a while. It wasn't a very lively place if you know what I mean. 'N-no, Master, I was looking for… you see I have to f-find Pain. Do you know where he—' His free hand connected with his forehead. "You lost him?" How on EARTH did he manage that? He didn't--- They were practically attached at the hip, and it certainly wasn't like they'd been doing anything dangerous or useful since he'd last given them an order. (Hell, they didn't do anything dangerous or useful when he DID give them an order.) Calm, he was calm. "Nope, can't say I've seen him. I'm sure he'll have the same good idea as you though and come around eventually. You'll just have to stay here and wait. We've got plenty of time." And then Panic thought it was be a good idea to shift forms.. into a snake.. Well, made it easier to choke him, that was one thing. "I really hope you aren't getting a bad idea right now." Squeezing his neck absentmindedly, Hades simply gripped him from both ends and tied him into a nice little bow before discarding him back on the floor. 'Don’t be mad… I can fix it.. I can..' he trailed off. "I'm listening. Really. You have my undivided attention. I'm extremely eager to hear this one. What can you do?" Because, to his knowledge, it wasn't very much.

But he didn’t lose him! I… misplaced him… A lot of craziness had happened recently and Pain and Panic had been trying to avoid getting into trouble. They got dangerously close to some giant monster (that was supposed to be dead…like what the hell?) and ran separate ways to hide. They hadn’t seen each other since. Hades seemed to think Pain would come back having nowhere else to go, but Panic didn’t just want to hang around and wait. But… if I go find him… then Panic wouldn’t have to sit around bonding with Hades. then we don’t have to wait f-for him… He gave Hades one of those big fake grins that people give when they were terrified out of their mind because they knew that what they had just said wasn’t going to help. The snake thing… it sounded like a good idea at the time. He was sort of supposed to slip out of Hades’s grip but it didn’t really work out that way and instead, it just ended up giving Hades a little bit of amusement. He coughed as his neck was squeezed (he’d sort of asked for that one). I really hope you aren’t getting a bad idea right now. Back on the floor, Panic dizzily shifted back to his original imp form. Hades wanted to know what he could do… and he really didn’t have an answer to that question but maybe if he stalled… I can… I can go look for him and put up posters all over Greece and ask Hercu--- Well that was probably enough talking for the year.

What possessed Panic to draw the conclusion that opening his mouth would improve the situation was entirely beyond Hades. You would think that experience would have taught him something by now.. but nope, not in the least. Anything he had known he'd managed to forget in the short amount of time he was on his own in the wold. It would really be better for HIM if he just learned to shut his mouth and say 'yes' when appropriate- but Panic was an idiot. And if you dont believe me, please direct yourself to exhibit A. 'I can… I can go look for him and put up posters all over Greece and ask Hercu---" There.. there it went. There was the explosion. We all saw it coming. Cue scary!Hades moment. "WHAT did you just say?" Oh, Hades heard him alright. He just wanted to give him a chance to amend himself (or more likely make everything worse) before he personally threw him into the river. "Let's just get a few ground rules established. One. You're not going anywhere unless I tell you to." Really, he was jsut saying that to make Panic feel all good about himself because there was no way in hell he was going to tell Panic to go anywhere after that. (At least until he got so annoying Hades just wanted him to get lost, then he'd probably tell him to do so and regret it later.) "While you were off "misplacing" Panic, I was busy cleaning up your mess. You know, eighteen years worth of work; kill Wonderboy, take over Olympus- any of this ringing a bell? Plan A was a bust. It's fine- it happen's. No harm, no foul.. it's a new day, right? But Wonderboy's a human now and the last thing I need is you finding a way to mess it up."

The talking thing wasn’t going well, but the shifting thing had failed too and Panic really couldn’t do much else. He was trying not to make a mistake, and he’d even stopped himself from finishing the sentence… but that was never good enough for Hades. Oops—now he was really mad. He’d done it now. WHAT did you just say? I said… I didn’t say anything. Nothing, he responded quickly as Hades exploded with one of those fake nervous smiles. It didn’t matter if he’d had an actual excuse for that, so he tried to drop it. Let’s just get a few ground rules established. One. You’re not going anywhere unless I tell you to. Well that was good, right? He just had to wait to be told to go. But… he wanted to find Pain now… so he nodded and inched toward the river where he’d come in through while Hades went off about plans that Panic had had no part in ruining (though he wasn’t going to be the one to explain that to Hades). It… wasn’t that bad… it worked out! Hercules being human was actually news to him—he hadn’t expected that one. I won’t mess it up, no, I wouldn’t do that. I can help! If I go… out there. He looked at the ground nervously as his curiosity grew. All we have to do is keep him human, right? That’s not so hard… It didn’t seem like a big deal, and so Hades had reason to be in a good mood which was a really good thing.

Were Hades not completely enraged (don't ask when that is.. its rare) he might have been amused by the mess that Panic had been reduced too. (I mean, lets face it, any problems that Panic had were probably due to Hades's wonderful treatment of the guy) "I didn't say anything. Nothing." "Right, right, good." Maybe next time he actually WOULDN'T say anything because yanno the only one who it was really hurting was him. 'It… wasn’t that bad… it worked out!' "I'm sorry, could you define working out for me? Preferably in the context of this incident?" Yeah, the voice raising, that's happening again. Because last Hades checked, what had happened with Hercules (which Phips is vague about because she hasn't actually seen the movie) was most definitely NOT working out. 'I won't mess it up, no, I wouldn't do that. I can help! If I go.. out there' "Let me think about that.... Nope, not happening." Right, so no thinking was actually required. 'All we have to do is keep him human, right?' Ha! Repeat what Panic said in a whiny mimicky voice in your head.. yeah.. cuz that's what I'm doing now, and what Hades is doing too. "You've got it.. That's a first. And that's also exactly why you're staying here. Back away from the river or you will regret it." The second Hero Boy caught Pain and Panic around -which would happen because the two of them had the sneaking skills of a sugar high eight year old with a megaphone in an echo chamber walking on a mile long pile of dead leaves- the plan would be ruined. Herc would go crying to Daddy, and there were all plans of conquering Mount Olympus.
