He would. He'd do this. He's probably hiding or somethin', Terk thought to herself with aggravation. Tarzan had said he was going to go with her to waterfall, but there Terk was, alone, and Tarzan was nowhere to be found. She was convinced that he was just fooling around for a while. They fooled around with each other a lot, and she was pretty sure he was going to jump out from behind a tree or something. But, she'd show him. She wouldn't even flinch because she knew it was coming. She knew it. It had to be coming.
Her mood progressively went from impatience to concern as her best friend was not showing up. Okay, okay, Tarzan! Ya got me! But, uh, I win, 'cuz I know you're there! So.. wouldja come out already?! The sun's gonna go down soon. Still, there was no response. Comon, I'll letcha have the really juicy termites in the morning. The ones ur too slow ta-- Maybe he wasn't hiding. Maybe he wasn't even there. Okay, something was up. Terk was a little nervous, but she was easily able to suppress the emotion, as she often did, as she went back to where the family was currently staying.
JANE! It was more of an obnoxious yell than anything. She didn't particularly sound like she was nervous, and everyone else knew that she was likely to be disruptive without having a good reason, so all was well. She could keep this situation on the down low. Figuring Jane was someone who'd be willing to look for Tarzan, she really had no other choice. Tarzan was respected by the family after what he had done, but nobody was going to go out and look for him unless he had been missing for days. They'd assume he was fine, and Terk didn't have the patience to wait for everyone else to start to worry, or to even notice he was gone. She swung on vines through the jungle and dropped to the ground when she saw Jane, landing at the woman's feet. Will ya help me? Tarzan's missing.

Jane sighed and put her hands on her hips as she watched her father wandering off after their tea time, leaving her to clean up, as usual. Laughing and shaking her head, she began collecting up the dishes from the table in the center of their camp. “Of course, leaving me to clean things up,” she said, rolling her eyes, as she poured out the extra hot water from the tea pot that they were using.
“It’s not as if I have better things to do, now is it?” she asked to nobody in particular as she began to collect the silverware and putting away the extra food. All of this was mostly just talk, though. Jane didn’t really mind cleaning up after her father, as much as she complained about it constantly. It had been something she had grown used to over the years. Professor. Porter was so absent-minded that he would constantly be getting distracted by something, which obviously left Jane to cleaning thing sup after his projects or meals.
Just as she had a small stack of dishes in her hands, a large form landed right in front of her. “Oh, oh!” she said, accidentally throwing the plates up and hastily catching them once again. “What? Tarzan?” she asked, slightly panicked as she set the stack of plates back onto the table in the center of the camp. “Well-well, we must go find him immediately! Where did you last see him?” she asked, tying her hair up on her head.

Well, that worked out well. As soon as Terk landed, Jane nearly dropped everything she had been holding. Pull yaself together, will ya? The last thing she needed was to have the best person willing to help all jittery. They were in the jungle, and it was likely that a monkey or spider or something was going to cross paths with Jane. If she jumped at everything, they were in a for a long trip. Then again, in her defense, she hadn’t at all expected Terk’s arrival, and she was focused on something else. Not like Terk was going to acknowledge that.. Jane seemed worried, which was what Terk had expected, so she kept her cool. Yea, Tarzan. Yanno, big, hairless, all human and what-not. Okay, get back to the point.
She nodded when Jane said that they had to go find him. That was kind of the idea. Last I saw ‘im, he was headed for the elephant cove to catch some fish. The genius thinks he can get ‘em with a stick somehow. Anyway, he said he’d come find me at the waterfall when he was done, but that was a while ago. If he ain’t done now, he’s not gonna catch anything. Terkina liked to tease Tarzan a lot, because of how he tended to do things differently, but it was always in good humor. In fact, sometimes she was even intrigued by his method of doing things, more so since he had met Jane and Archimedes. He had always been weird, but he changed a lot when he found humans.
Anyway, it’s getting late. We hafta do somethin’, but I dunno where to look. Once it got dark it would be especially difficult to see under the dense sky of trees and vines. The gorillas had no better eyesight at night than humans did, so they wouldn’t be able to do much about Tarzan’s absence if they didn’t hurry. Thinking about it annoyed Terk. You gotta small sun or somethin’ in here? She asked, looking around the camp, referring to a flashlight of some sort. She figured it was worth a try to ask, knowing that the humans had come with a lot of strange objects she had never known about.

Jane laughed, rather embarrassed at how easily frightened she was. “Yes, sorry about that, but a warning would have been appreciated, Terk,” she said, brushing some of her hair out of her face as she lowered the stack of plates onto the table. She sighed and lightly rolled her eyes as Terk went into detail about exactly who Tarzan was. “Yes, yes, I’m aware of who you’re referring to,” she said, shaking her head slightly.
“Why, certainly you can catch fish with a stick-,” she said before shaking her head, forcing herself to focus. She needed to get as many of the proper facts as she could, so that she would know where to look and wouldn’t waste time looking for Tarzan in places where he probably would not be found.
“Exactly how long ago was ‘awhile ago’? And did you go look for him at the cove?” she asked, tapping her chin with her forefinger, pondering where would be the best place to look. They should really be used to Tarzan running off without telling anybody, but it was still worrisome all the same.
“What? A small su-oh!” said Jane, her confusion being quickly replaced with comprehension as she sped into one of the tents that were scattered around the campsite. She flung open one of the trunks and began rummaging around, looking for a flashlight. “Aha! Here we are!” she said, her head deep within the trunk. She popped up, flashlight in hand and quickly stuffed it into her belt, as they wouldn’t need it for awhile anyway.
"Now then. Shall we be off?" she asked, starting to head into the jungle.

This is no time for warnings. Ya know who he is, so, ya wanna find him or not? She was still amused by Jane’s reaction, but it was time to get serious. Okay..right after.. How couldja use a stick to catch a fish?? It’s easier to just grab it. You people and your ways..ya just complicate everything. Well, that’s how it seemed to the gorillas, even though humans did often think of more efficient ways to go about doing things. Terk didn’t think she’d ever get used to humans completely. Not that she’d have a chance to. If it were up to her, she’d never have to see another human again, excluding the Porters, of course. Okay, now it was time to be serious again.
Terk listened to Jane’s questions with impatience. I dunno, awhile ago.. soon after the rain this morning. Time wasn’t exactly easy to describe since the gorillas didn’t walk around with watches strapped to their wrists. Uuuh..no. No, I did not. She answered the question awkwardly, realizing that the cove seemed like an obviously reasonable place to begin their search. Maybe..we should do that. Terk was not very smart when it came to looking for Tarzan, but they shouldn’t have even had to look for him. Dang Tarzan and his disappearing act.. he had to have done it a few times a month. The guy was too curious for his own good.
The gorilla, having been nearly joking before, watched in wonder as Jane picked something out and stuck it at her waist. Terk did not understand how putting something there was going to make more light, but she wasn’t going to question it. It seemed that Jane had understood what Terk was asking about, so it had to be something useful for later. Let’s go, she said, heading into the dense row of trees surrounding the small camp. Tarzan! She began swinging on vines, however she stayed close to the ground while doing this, knowing it wasn’t going to be a good idea to lose Jane somewhere in the jungle. That’d be interesting—Hi, Tarzan. Funny story. Your human friend is lost somewhere, probably getting attacked by baboons. Jeez, you’d think he’d seen all there is to see by now. It wasn’t like this place was new territory for Tarzan, yet his need for adventure never seemed to dull down.

”You didn’t? Why, how do you know that he’s missing? Oh, nevermind. Not to worry, we’ll find him. Yes, I would say that would be a prime place to look for him first off,” she said, patting Terk on the shoulder. She sighed and shook her head. Critical thinking really wasn’t in Terk’s arsenal of talents. This was a bit worrisome, though, if they weren’t able to find Tarzan in the jungle. Jane hadn’t really been around the jungle too much without Tarzan…but surely Terk knew her way around the jungle as well as (if not better) than Tarzan.
Jane nodded and went after Terk as the gorilla led the way into the jungle. “Tarzan!” she said, cupping her hands around her mouth to make her call a little bit louder. Oh, she did hope that Tarzan hadn’t gotten himself into some sort of trouble deep into the jungle.
He’d always warned her never to go there alone. In the back of her mind, she knew that she really shouldn’t be worrying so much because Tarzan really knew how to take care of himself, but…there was always a chance that he might get attacked by a bunch of jaguars or he fell into a mess of snakes in the canopy! …Alright, so she may be thinking on a ridiculous scale…
“Oh, you know,” said Jane, shrugging her shoulders and pushing some large leaves out of the way before she walked through the small opening,”things are always changing around here, it seems. Er…which way is the cove again?” She paused in her walking to take a look around her…yes, she definitely didn’t know where she was or where she was going. After all, she was just following Terk.
“Is that running water? Do you hear that?” she asked, putting a hand to her ear.
