Vlad was trying his best to look through stuff but it didn’t seem like there was anything around that was useable. He was doing fine looking around and all focused and then suddenly CRASH. He jerked his head around to see Dimitri on the floor with a toppled over pile of furniture. He ran over to help the kid as soon as he realized what had happened. ”Are you alright?” he asked, before laughing a little. ”Leave it to you,” he said, shaking his head and reaching his hand down to pull Dimitri up. ”That should do it!” He took the large piece of wood/furniture or whatever it was and removed the paper from the crack in the chest, sticking the furniture in its place. ”Pull on it from the top?” While Dimitri did that, Vladimir used the piece to pry the chest open. It wasn’t easy and it took a good minute but the old chest finally opened…and now they could take and keep for themselves… a piece of paper. ”Govno…” There was nothing but a piece of paper. That was kind of a killjoy. Vlad tossed the wood to the side, picking up the paper and handing it to Dimitri. ”There’s our treasure,” he said with a tone full of sarcasm and disappointment.

'Are you alright?' "I'm okay," Dimitri announced, still grinning awkwardly while Vlad laughed and helped him up. He couldnt be embarrassed too long though. After all, they had a chest to open.. and a means of doing it now. Vlad shoved the piece of wood where the papers had been. 'Pull on it from the top' He did so, and the two of them actually manage to flip the lid. Vlad reached in and pulled out.... paper. Yeah, definite killjoy. 'Theres our treasure.' Dimitri's excitement fell as well. He took the piece of paper and glance over it. "Hold on, we're not out yet. Look at this!" He held the paper up to Vlad again, pointing at a line. "We're on our way to a real treasure!" Of course he was going to be optimistic about this. I mean it wasnt like they had much to loose. "Thats not too far from here." he said, looking at the address again. Okay, so it wasnt close either but.. trying to persuade Vlad here. C'mon, lets go!" Opportunity for grandeur made potentially getting killed outside a lot less scary.

Hold on, we’re not out yet. Look at this! It was pretty annoying that they hadn’t found anything after all the work they’d gone through to open the chest (okay so it hadn’t been much work and the most important part of it was something Dimitri did accidentally out of stupidity). When Dimitri pointed at the paper though, Vlad looked curiously. We’re on our way to a real treasure! Well, that was slightly less disappointing, but the sound of leaving the building didn’t sound any more appealing now than it did ten seconds before. That’s not too far from here. ”It’s also not inside. Dimitri, it’s still dangerous to go outside…” It was clear in his tone that he was very worried about losing Dimitri in the angry crowd, but also that he reaaallyyyy wanted to go. C’mon, let’s go! Vlad sighed and looked around the room before running toward the door. ”Okay, but we’re not going back out the window you broke.” Vlad pulled the door open slowly and looked both ways down the hall of the building. It didn’t look like the rest of the building was used anymore than the one room did.

Dimitri knew that Vlad wasnt going to be eager to leave the room, but he also knew that they got along well for a reason and Vlad would be as just excited about finding treasure as he would. "Its also not inside. Dimitri, its still dangerous to go outside." "We'll be fine! We can take the back streets- no one will even notice we're there!" Okay, so that wasnt totally true either. Luckily Vlad either bought it or knew Dimitri wasnt going to shut up until they went and decided agreeing was just in everyone's best interests. "Okay, but we're not going back out the window you broke." He could deal with that. He followed Vlad out the -- OHMYGODTILLYDIDYOURCHARACTERJUSYUSEADOOR?? anyway, followed Vlad out the door and into a totally empty building. "We need to remember this place. Good location, we could have some set up here." Because yanno, operating business on the streets was a little dangerous and they couldnt really do it in Vlads house because his dad was on the scary side too. Paper still in hand Dimitri ran across the hall down the stairs basically just forcing Vlad to follow. Once they were outside, he showed him the paper again. "Okay, whats the fastest way to get here?" Because yeah Dimitri didnt really know shit about where it was but that much was obvious.

Dimitri was just lucky that Vlad was usually on board with what Dimitri wanted to do. Leaving the room was absolutely stupid but they were doing it anyway in search of some treasure they might not even get to. We’ll be fine! We can take the back streets—no one will even notice we’re there! That was probably going to work out perfectly but they were still being risky. ”You’re probably right,” he admitted in agreement to leaving the building. And yes, Vlad is slightly on the normal side of Tilly’s characters and therefore is accustomed to using doors but I’m glad you enjoyed it nonetheless. We need to remember this place. Good location, we could have some set up here. Now that idea was actually a really good one. ”No one would ever know we were here—looks perfect to me.” Vlad was sure to get as good a look at it as possible before they left the building. He looked at the paper and followed a route on it with his index finger. ”This way, but we’d have to climb up the side of that building we hid behind yesterday. There’d be a dead end and we shouldn’t be on the main street.”

”You’re probably right.” ”I’m always right.” Except all those times he was wrong and Vlad was right but those didn’t prove Dimitri’s point and therefor didn’t count right now. It just so happened that Dimitri’s next idea was one that Vlad agreed to more than the leaving the building one and he basked in the ”Looks perfect to me”, taking note of the building as well so that they could find their way back assuming the ladder and street were all destroyed by tomorrow which was totally likely the way things seemed to be going. It was amazing the side streets weren’t flooded as well yet but there were people running past and they had to be kind of loud (for a quiet treasure hunting conversation) in order to hear each other over all the unpleasentness. ”This way, but we’d have to climb up the side of that building we hid behind yesterday.” ”Sounds doable.” The building climbing wouldn’t be hard. Another round of bangs came from the main street and Dimitri grinned nervously.Yeup, he was always right. ”Okay, guess we should probably go.. You want to run for it?” Running just seemed a lot better than walking in this situation. Their path was open as far as they could see but past that it was anyone’s best guess what was happening. Dimitri peered around the edge of the building when it quieted down, trying to get a look look at the other side. "C'mon, you lead-- I think we're clear. Let's go!"

I’m always right. ”Don’t push it,” the older boy said with a smirk. Dimitri was most certainly not always right…not even close if you asked Vlad. But we can’t all be perfect and Dimitri was pretty amusing to hang around with so Vlad could deal with his terrible decision-making. Vlad figured they’d have to climb to avoid going back in the street and it was a good thing they spent so much time snooping around—it really helped when it came down to knowing where they could go. Sounds doable. That wouldn’t be too big of a deal if they made it there—there was still craziness happening in the street and the noise was pretty distracting and impossible to miss. Vlad was just as nervous as Dimitri was, though as serious as he was going to take the situation they’d been through it before and he knew they’d be fine. Okay, guess we should probably go.. You want to run for it? Vlad nodded. ”Just keep up.” He knew Dimitri could more than keep up as far as speed was concerned however he was more worried about Dimitri’s attention span. He didn’t have time to turn around and watch if they saw something. It was better for them, for many reasons, just to keep moving forward without looking back. Vlad began running as Dimitri had him take the lead. He kept a keen lookout for the path ahead, making sure to be ready to change direction quickly if they got too close to someone…who…they didn’t want to be close to. At one point they did turn a corner that led to a bunch of people in the street and it just wasn’t something they wanted to run into. Stopping quickly and moving between the nearest two buildings, Vlad grabbed Dimitri’s arm and pulled him in as well. ”You’d think everyone would just get over it by now.” Like, yea people were all pissed off and shit but clearly the riots hadn’t been working. ”Almost time to climb, you alright?” It was a good thing they were in shape—they were bound to be with all the running they always had to do.

”Just keep up.” ”Yes Sir” Dimitri replied obnoxiously (because you wouldn’t have known that this was an obnoxious comment had I not specified) Dimitri knew Vlad was talking about his ability to get involved with things he shouldn’t and not his speed so he stayed close to the older boy and made sure to watch in case he changed directions suddenly, which did happen as soon as they turned a corner. It was good that Vlad was leading because he caught it and before Dimitri could see what was happening Vlad had grabbed his arm and pulled him between two buildings. Waiting a moment to make sure nobody had seen or followed them, Dimitri grinned, catching his breath. ”You’d think everyone would just get over it by now.” ”Really- It’s not even like anything’s changed! If you didn’t have anything before you still don’t have anything now and you’re not going to get anything if things go back to how they were. I don’t get why this is so hard for people to figure out.” The whole thing was frustrating! I mean, yeah, Dimitri got it. Blah blah blah morals blah blah blah tyrant blah blah blah bad. (Clearly, he got it.) But really, the whole thing just seemed pointless. I mean, it wasn’t even like Dimitri hadn’t been affected by the revolution. He had. He lost his home, his job, got a nasty hit on the head, and could probably be killed for treason if anyone from the government recognized him. (He was a very accomplished pre-teen) But, had all that shit not happened he wouldn’t have met Vlad and for some strange reason he liked the guy. So, the way he saw it, the change hadn’t been such a bad thing. He reached for the edge of a windowsill and pulled himself up to sit on it. ”Almost ready to climb, you alright?” He nodded. ”Ready when you are. Which way's it again?”

Vlad grinned when Dimitri agreed to keep up. He didn’t want to have to worry about losing the kid in a crowd. He was pretty happy to get as far as they did without any problems and at that point pretty confident that there weren’t going to be any. Dimitri went on explaining when what most of Russia’s population was too stupid to understand. I don’t get why this is so hard for people to figure out. Vlad shook his head. ”This is why you and I need to rule.” Adults just overlooked the simplest of problems when the solutions were right there in plain sight. Not that Vlad was far from being an adult but he hung out with Dimitri so that made up for his age. Dimitri of all people had reason to go revolt and you didn’t see him running through the streets attacking shit and setting fires. Ready when you are. Which way’s it again? Vlad pointed in the direction they had been heading in. ”It’s that way…a few buildings down…but we can’t just run across that street.” Vlad was very much aware of what could happen if Dimitri was caught, so yea. Not happening. ”Follow me,” he said after contemplating for a few moments. He took them back into the street they’d been running down but instead of passing the street that lead to the mob, he crossed the other way and went between two more buildings, then moving by the crowd by staying hidden behind them. Then they were able to cross back over and get behind the infamous building they’d need to climb up. Stopping by a rusty fire escape ladder, Vlad pulled on it to test its strength before looking back at Dimitri. ”You’re up,” he said with a smirk. Again, if Dimitri did something stupid (or if it wasn’t his fault which was also likely I guess) and fell Vlad would be able to help him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, Dimitri was mature. Much more mature than all the adults, anyway. He didn’t go attack shit and start fires. He just stole shit from people’s pockets and snuck into places he shouldn’t have been and sometimes said things that should get him killed but didn’t because he was clever and fast.. and small… and lucky.. and had Vlad. ”This is why you and I need to rule.” ”You wanna rule this lot?” Dimitri questioned, gesturing towards the street. ”No way- I’m out. Good luck.” He spread his arms decisively and laughed. Seriously- these people were stupid and crazy and it was obvious that they were going to be stupid and crazy no matter who was in charge. Why put themselves through that kind of trouble just to end up hated? Of course, they were already pretty hated by almost everyone who knew them – but that was more fun. ”Let’s go find another country to take over.” Oh, and you’d think he was joking, but Dimitri was totally serious. They’d be awesome rulers. ”Any ideas?” His geography skills were.. well.. nonexistent. But he figured Vlad would know someplace that had good food or fun places to hang out or something. ”Preferably somewhere that doesn’t get two hundred feet of snow a year!” Because Russia was ridiculous and Dimitri was done with that shit. Anyway, Vlad was awesome and totally knew how to get where they were going so Dimitri jumped off his little perch and followed the older boy back onto the streets. They made it to the building they’d hid behind they other day and Vlad tested another fire escape ladder that looked like it hadn’t been used since the stone ages. ”It’s a good thing people care so much about fires.” he muttered, smirking. If they didn’t the two of them would have to take actual streets places and they’d never get anywhere. ”You’re up.” ”You just want to see if I can bust another window.” Not that they even needed to do that because they were going to the roof but Dimitri wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to be obnoxious or show off, especially when Vlad was assuming he was going to do something stupid and fall off... I mean, it had only happened once. Give him a break.

You wanna rule this lot? The kid had a point. Vlad had no desire to try to keep order over the group of chaotic children...though things would obviously have been better if Vlad and Dimitri had been ruling in the first place (because two kids ruling was obviously the best way to get things done). No way-I'm out. Good luck. Vlad laughed--there was no way he was doing it without Dimitri. He'd be eaten alive. Dimitri was onto something when he mentioned taking over another country. "I suppose Finland is our best bet," he said with a smirk on his face. "But I don't think that solves the snow problem." They could try to invent a way to mass murder all the snow but in the meantime they had climbing to do. It’s a good thing people care so much about fires. Vlad smirked too. It was true—it’d be a lot harder to hide from the crowds if they couldn’t maneuver behind buildings by using the ladders. ”Yea, no kidding.” They’d have to resort to somehow using rope or something and that just wasn’t as easy to climb. You just want to see if I can bust another window. ”Actually I’d much prefer you didn’t,” he said, laughing slightly. ”Just get to the top without falling, please.” Jeez, I feel like Thorin right now. He knew Dimitri could get up there. He just didn’t want him distracted.

”Rulers of Finland,” Dimitri mused, nodding his approval. ”Sounds good to me.” Frankly, anywhere that wasn’t where they were now would have sounded equally as good to him but he really didn’t know anything about Finland and he figured the less people talked about a place the less psychotic the people must have been and so with that logic- it seemed perfect. Dimitri grabbed onto the fire escape and pulled himself up. ”Actually I’d much prefer if you didn’t” ”Fine, fine- next time you can do it.” He held one of his hands up defensively, the other one holding the ladder because Dimitri was perfectly capable of doing this responsibly. Vlad basically told him to stop being obnoxious and start climbing and so Dimitri did just that (the climbing, anyway), pretty quickly too. ”You need to stop doubting me.” He made it to the top without any problems (ha!) and waited for Vlad to catch up before climbing over the railing. He wasn’t tall enough to reach the roof from there so in typical Dimitri fashion he climbed back over the railing and attempted to stand on the thin bar...And in even more typical Dimitri fashion he lost his footing and almost fell off the fire escape. But he grabbed the platform so it was all good except yanno, now he was jsut hanging there awkwardly staring at Vlad's shoes. "I know- you don't need to say it"

Vlad smirked as Dimitri announced that he approved of the ruling Finland idea but until they like got Finland’s permission to go and rule there I feel like that’d otherwise be a very difficult task. ”Great! You can send them a letter.” Yup. Vlad had his shit together. He’d make it happen. Of course it was more likely to happen at some time when Vlad could focus on more than just making sure Dimitri didn’t kill himself by falling off the ladder (which Dimitri was proving to be a very rational fear). Fine, fine—next time you can do it. ”Not exactly the compromise I was looking for,” he said, playfully hitting the kid in the back of the head before he began to climb (I mean Vlad wasn’t going to hit him while he was climbing that’d just be stupid). You need to stop doubting me. Yea, Vlad was literally right about to admit (to himself anyway) that he could stop doubting DImitri for two seconds before he slipped. He should have seen that coming when the kid tried to go backwards over the bar but he was a little preoccupied with keeping himself on the ladder. ”Govno,” he muttered, instinctively jerking his arms off the platform to catch Dimitri in case he needed to. He wasn’t even sure he’d have been able to catch him that way, but it was more of a reflex than a voluntary decision. Luckily, he didn’t need to find out. I know—you don’t need to say it. Vlad sighed with relief and got to his knees. ”You almost lost us a good hour. Would’ve taken twice as long to get back up with a broken leg.” He grinned. ”Try to swing your legs up,” he said as he grabbed Dimitri’s arm and pulled him up back onto the platform. He then looked up at the distance to the roof and back to Dimitri, getting to his knees again. ”Stand on my shoulders.”

”Great! You can send them a letter.” Oh, yeah. They kind of needed Finland’s permission to declare themselves rulers- oops, didn’t think of that. Of course, needing permission wasn’t such a detriment from their plans. I mean, it wouldn't be the first thing they did without obtaining permission, lying to obtain permission, or obnoxiously granting each other permission. They were Russia's futre best con artists. They’d think of something! ”I will- it will be very persuasive!” Dimitri assured, before announcing ”We’re stopping somewhere for letter writing things before you go home.” Yanno, like paper and a stamp and shit Dimitri didn’t have and had no intentions of paying for. ”I imagine we could find the address for Finland in one of your father’s ridiculously large books?” Dimitri was pretty sure you could find a person in one of those things, but maybe that was just his opinion. Anyway, enough obnoxiousness about Findland ruling. Dimitri probably would have continued talking about their futures as government officials if he wasn’t preoccupied by falling off the ladder. Luckily but Dimitri and Vlad had pretty good reflexes, and Dimitri grabbed the platform and Vlad had his arm before Dimitri could slip again (platforms weren't really equipped with hand grips or anything) ”You almost lost us a good hour. Would’ve taken twice as long to get back up with a broken leg.” ”I’d have figured something out.” he grunted, kicking his legs around trying to get a grip on something. ”Stupid ladder..” With Vlad’s help, he was able to get back up on the platform, and that was cool because falling like four stories didn’t sound very fun. "Thanks." Vlad was clearly on a roll because Dimtri had just got to his feet again when he came up with an idea as to how to get to the roof. Dimitri smirked. ”Yanno, one day I’m gonna be taller than you.” Okay, actually, according to google images, this statement is not true.. but the difference would be much less noticeable and they wouldn’t have these ridiculous sorts of issues that always ended with Dimitri falling off shit. Again, thanks to Vlad, Dimitri made it up on the roof without killing himself. Once he was positioned well he leaned over and reached his hand out to help Vlad. "It's a shame climbing up buildings isn't a recognized sport. We'd be famous by now."

I will—it will be very persuasive! Because if anyone could write a letter convincing Finland to be ruled it was a twelve year old con artist from Russia (or where ever the hell he came from because I feel like nobody even knows). We’re stopping somewhere for letter writing things before you go home. This conversation could go on the Phips and Tilly list of pointless conversations. They were really taking this shit far. ”Great—Father just got new stationary.” It was all fancy and had extravagant designs along the border. Finland couldn’t deny letter writers with classy stationary. I imagine we could find the address for Finland in one of your father’s ridiculously large books? Because a country had an address. ”Surely he has it somewhere. The mailing address will take the letter with nice paper straight to the giant mailbox in the middle of the country.” I mean where else would mail get taken when it was addressed to a country? It was a good thing they had this planned out…and that I’ve already exhausted half a paragraph on the subject. One thing’s for sure—Dimitri had to stay alive if he wanted to rule a country. That meant he couldn’t go messing around on buildings without thinking things through. Like… chancing things was all good like that kept things interesting but making it onto a roof as opposed to falling multiple stories was not something you left to chance. I’d have figured something out. ”Yes, like which shoulder I’d be hauling you around on.” They weren’t going to get very far if Dimitri broke a leg and to be fair if he’d fallen that far he could have easily had much more damage than that. Vlad had a lot of faith in the kid but not even Dimitri was figuring that one out. Thanks. Vlad nodded with a grin before getting to his knees. He was clearly amused with the fact that the kid needed a boost, but hey he was enjoying the time in their life in which he was significantly taller. It wasn’t going to last forever. Yanno, one day I’m gonna be taller than you. ”Not at this rate. If you keep falling and hitting your head on things you’re only going to lose height.” I mean if Dimitri planned on getting squished by giant shelf units on a regular basis there was no way he was growing at all. It’s a shame climbing up buildings isn’t a recognized sport. We’d be famous by now. ”National sport of Finland,” he said with a smirk. Then Dimitri reached out his hand. Vlad grabbed it with one hand and jumped, pushing himself up onto the roof with the other. ”So you are useful,” he teased before offering a sincere ”Thanks.” Neither of them would get very far without the other. Once on the roof, they could get to the other side and climb back down to the alley whose access had been blocked off by a dead end from the side they’d come from. That way, they were avoiding streets they didn’t want to be caught in. ”No taking chances like that on your way down.” They weren’t exactly in the clear yet and they needed to be careful.

Well, someone had gotten sarcastic all of a sudden. ” The mailing address will take the letter with nice paper straight to the giant mailbox in the middle of the country.” Dimitri scoffed. ”The capitol— palace--- you know what I mean!” No, Finland doesn’t actually have a palace, but again, excuse the uneducated twelve year old. Were it not for the tone in Vlad’s voice Dimitri probably would have believed that there was a giant mailbox in the middle of Finland because yanno, in his defense, the idea wasn’t really that out there. (They were attempting to have Finland handed over to them within the week. A national mailbox was NOT that out there.) Anyway, Vlad continued to be obnoxious and Dimitri rolled his eyes, obviously amused although he tried not to show it. After all, Vlad would be the one hauling him around if he fell off a building. ”If you keep falling and hitting your head on things youre only going to lose height.” ”Very funny.” he responded sarcastically, grinning and rolling his eyes. ”People don’t get shorter.” I mean, there was no way he was falling for something like that. Seriously. ”National sport of Finland.” ”Okay now I can’t even tell what you’re actually joking about!” They made it up to the roof without dying so yeah yay go them. ”So you are useful.” ”I have my moments.” Obviously, the actual thanking each other wasn’t something that got acknowledged because they both knew that they needed the other one if they wanted to get anywhere. Dimitri nodded, flashing a winning grin and laughing again when Vlad told him to cut it out with the risky behavior on the way down. Because they’d just gone through all that work getting up there so they could go down again an alleyway over. Rediculous- but Vlad was the safety and navigation authority. Whatever he said went. Okay.. so that was a lie.Well.. there were exceptions. ”Hey Vlad- I think it’s a good time for a chance.” Dimtri pointed down to where two police on the main street were looking up at them with not-very-happy expressions. The second the stupid people started moving Dimitri backed up and without giving Vlad the chance to stop him, ran and jumped onto the next rooftop. He made it (a rough landing but it was rough on the roof and that was all that mattered) and immediately called back ”Come on!” Now that they were on the other side the police had to get through the angry mob if they wanted to catch them, so Dimitri wasn’t very worried about them getting caught. Still, staying still wasn’t an option because they they ended up cornered and that just wasnt fun. He picked up a small broken something and threw it at one of the officers below them. After checking to make sure they were clear again he lightly shoved Vlad in front of him. ”You’re leading again unless you want to chance jumping off a balcony.” Because that was Dimitri's only real idea at the moment and even he knew it was a stupid one.
